Damn you Steam!!! Ughhh Fine, Take My Money

On June 21, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

I’ve been trying to hold off on buying Deus Ex: Human Revolution for some time.  I really want to buy it, but I already have too many games to finish before I pick up another.  I guess I technically already own a copy on OnLive, but that’s not the same.

I almost pulled the trigger last week when GameFly had the regular version on for $7.50.  That’s a great deal, but the DLC (The Missing Link) was not included and was still listed for $15 (for just the DLC).  I decided to let it go and work on my backlog of games I already own.

Well, wouldn’t you know it, only hours after the GameFly sale ends, Steam decides to tempt me even further by putting the whole collection up for sale at 75% off.  That’s $15 for all three games (including the Augmented Edition of Deus Ex: HR), the DLC and both add-on packs.  Damn you Steam!!!  You evil temptress of gaming goodness.

Project Fedora – $300K Raised After 2 Weeks

On May 29, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

It’s been slow going this past week, but I’m happy to report that after another week of pledges, the Kickstarter to raise funds for a new Tex Murphy Adventure Game has passed the $300K milestone.

We’re only 66% of the way there and in reality we really want to raise a lot more than the $450K Kickstarter goal, but $300K in two weeks is still pretty darn good.

If all goes well, we can maintain this pace and then far surpass $450K with the (hopefully) inevitable burst of pledges that seem to come right at the end.

If you haven’t already made your pledge, honestly, what are you waiting for?

No, seriously, go pledge.  😀

Sony Says No Android 4.0 for Xperia Play

On May 29, 2012, in Games, Technology, by ComputerAbuser

According to a post made on the Sony Mobile Blog site, the Xperia Play will be the only 2011 Xperia model to not get Android 4.0 – code named Ice Cream Sandwich.

This is in spite of the fact that they explicitly stated that all 2011 Xperia phones would get the update back in November.

Project Fedora – Over Half Way in 1 Week

On May 22, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

I am happy to report that in 1 week, the Project Fedora Kickstarter has been able to raise over 50% of their target.

There is still a long, long way to go, but this is a good sign.

It’s no where near what Shadowrun Returns and Wasteland 2 were able to achieve, but we need to first hit our target before we worry about exceeding it.

Actually, now that I think about it, I’m not sure why these previous Kickstarters were so successful.  Are there that many more RPG fans out there than Adventure Game fans?

Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive and Overseer were some of the best adventure games produced in the past 30 years.  Project Fedora aims to continue the series and it’s being done by the original creators.

In contrast, the Leisure Suit Larry Kickstarter was for a remake of a much simpler, shorter game and it raised over $650K.  Maybe I’m missing something?

100 Days Until Pax Prime 2012

On May 22, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

According to the countdown clock on the PAX Prime homepage, there are just over 100 days until PAX Prime 2012 begins.

If you haven’t already booked a hotel, you may want to get on it.  There is not much left available in the area of the Convention Center.  Unless you want to spend more than $250/night.

On a side note, my son mentioned that we should attend in costume.  I don’t know if there is much chance of that happening, but you never know, stranger things have happened.

Project Fedora Passes $100K in Under 12 hrs

On May 15, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

Technically, it took less than 11 1/2 hours, but either way $100000 is a huge number for this type of Kickstarter to achieve in such a short time.

I hope this bodes well for the final number.

As long as they are able to maintain this momentum it should be possible to go well above the $450000 goal; which is a very good thing.

The Pandora Directive cost over $4000000 to produce back in 1996.  I realize the technology has gotten better and you can do a lot more for a lot less money, but $450000 doesn’t seem near enough money to make Tex Murphy 6 as good as I would like it to be.

Decided to pledge to Jane Jensen after all

On May 15, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

Even though her Kickstarter met their $300 000 target a short while ago, I decided to make a pledge anyway.

Sadly, the Pinkerton Road Studio Kickstarter has served as an example of how not to run a Kickstarter.

The initial pitch was overly complex and unspecific.  Although, through dozens of updates they have been able to hammer the idea down to a single game pitch “Moebius” and better explain the idea of a Community Supporter Game system.

I’m a fan of the Gabriel Knight games, so I’m willing to make a small pledge to see what they can do with a new IP.

Tex Murphy Kickstarter NOW LIVE!!!

On May 15, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

Well it seemed like forever, but the Kickstarter of all Kickstarters has finally launched.

As of 9 AM, Mountain Standard Time, Project Fedora – the Kickstarter for a new Tex Murphy adventure game, is now up and running.

It’s off to a strong start, but that doesn’t mean anything if the money stops flowing in once the “Die Hard” fans have made their pledges.

I’ve already made my pledge and I will be watching very closely as the days progress.

Lost on Netflix Canada

On May 4, 2012, in Movies, by ComputerAbuser

Apparently, my family and I are some of the few people who haven’t already watched the TV series “Lost”.  Everytime it comes up and I mention to friends that I have never watched it, I always get disbelief and then “well, you have to watch it!”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always wanted to watch it, I just never got around to it.

Well, imagine my surprise when I logged in to Netflix a little while ago and was greeted with a nice big picture of “Lost” and the words “recommended for you”.  According to What’s New on Netflix Canada, it went live on April 15th.

We are already on Episode 6 and kids can’t seem to get enough.  Who would have thought a TV show about a bunch of strangers stuck on island in the midle of nowhere would bring a family together.

I decided not to support Leisure Suit Larry

On May 4, 2012, in Games, by ComputerAbuser

I’m actually pretty excited for the Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards re-make that will now be made as a result of their successful Kickstarter.

The only LSL game I ever played was Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude.  It’s nothing like the original and it was made without Al Lowe’s involvement, so it doesn’t really count.

I enjoyed Magna Cum Laude to a certain extent.  There was some fun to be had, but nothing groundbreaking.  It ended up continually crashing at a certain point and I was never able to finish it.  No big loss.
